Description:

Russia - Imperial Russia: Jetton to Commemorate Graduation from Moscow University in 1911. Gold. Measures 30 mm from top of crown to base, or 18 mm not including crown suspender. 5.75 gm. Imperial eagle, on reverse “1911” at centre and ‘И.M.Ч. - С.Л. МИНСКЕРЪ’ on surround - the first part identifies Moscow University, whilst the latter part being the initials and surname of the recipient which transcribes roughly as C.N. Minsker. No visible maker’s mark but known to be by the firm of Dmitri Osipov of Moscow. Rare.

Condition: slightly polished on highlights, Good Very Fine.

Unlike most reverses of this Jetton which are found engraved, this reverse is struck from a special die. As it names a specific graduate, hence quite probably unique to his man. Thus it would have represented a large cost to the graduate at the time.
