William Vanstone was born in Torquay, Devon and giving his trade as a Cook attested on 23rd September 19414 at Valcartier, Quebec, he would subsequently travel to France and see service with the 7th Battalion (1st British Columbia), Canadian Expeditionary Force.

He would be killed in action on 3rd June 1916 and having no known grave is now remembered on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, and is note das the son of the late John and Serina Vanstone of 26 Warbro Road, Babbacombe, Torquay and the husband of Maud Vanstone of 5 King’s Terrace, Taunton, Somerset, England.
