William Benjamin Warne was born in and enlisted at Totnes, Devon, going on to see service as a Private (No. 7430) with the 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. He would see service on the Western Front from 6th November 1914 and would be killed in action on 30th March 1917 being buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension and is note as the step-son of Mrs Mary J. Warne of Steps Cottage, South Street, Totnes, Devonshire Regiment.
