Victory Medal awarded to Private C.A, Sykes, Royal Marines who would see service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from 1st March until 31st December 1915, and then in France where he was twice wounded, firstly by a shell on 23rd April 1917 and then secondly by as gas shell on 16th March 1918.

Charles Albert Sykes was born near Huddersfield and would enlist and see service in the Royal Marines as a Private (No. DEAL 3245-S-) during the Great War.
Sykes would see service with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force from 1st March to 31st December 1915, he would then serve with the British Expeditionary Force in France until 4th March 1919 receiving a shell wound on 23rd April 1917.and being gassed on 16th March 1918.
He would return to the UK on 5th January 1919 and be demobilised on 13th February 1919.
