Victory Medal awarded to Private A.J. Wynne, Royal Fusiliers, who was then wounded in action in 1917, and having been evacuated home, from December 1917 was serving with the Royal Flying Corps, and transferred into the Royal Air Force on its formation. He ended up a Sergeant with the Clerks Section.

Alfred James Wynne was born on 3rd April 1886 and had family in Streatham Hill, London. He worked as a stone carver, and with the Great War enlisted into the British Army on 16th November 1916, joining as a Private (No.65297) the Royal Fusiliers. Having seen service at the front and been wounded in action and evacuated home, he then transferred as a Private (No.115743) to the Royal Flying Corps on 30th December 1917, and then transferred into the Royal Air Force on its formation on 1st April 1918, being employed with the Clerks Section, and appointed to the rank of Clerk 2nd Class on 1st May 1918, being promoted to Corporal Clerk on 17th December 1918, and appointed to Acting Sergeant on 1st July 1919, before being promoted to Sergeant on that same date. Wynne was transferred to the Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 29th April 1920.
