Victorian circa 1850-1880’s period page of photographs from a the Northey family album, all small form gelatine silver print studio photographs, 9 in all, with four of the poplin the photographs being identified by their names having been inscribed beneath, whilst two others are identified because their signatures have been cut out from letters and pasted beneath the images. One image is of Lieutenant Colonel Francis Vernon Northey, 60th Rifles, killed during the Zulu War on 2 April 1879, another shows George Northey, the English first-class cricketer, and another shows Reginald Darwin, who uncle was father to Charles Darwin, the naturalist and geologist and co-founder of the Theory of Evolution.
Condition: clear images, some tarnishing from age to paper mount, generally Good Condition.
One of the images shows Lieutenant Colonel Francis Vernon Northey (second row left hand photograph), he being an officer in the 60th Royal Rifles, who was commanding his regiment when he was killed in action during the Zulu War at the Battle of Gigindhlovu on 2 April 1879.
Another image shows, supported by a signature, shows George Northey, this being George Wilbraham Northey, who was an English first-class cricketer, and a Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army.
Another image shows, supported by a signature, shows Reginald Darwin, whose uncle, Robert Waring Darwin was the father of the Charles Darwin, the naturalist and geologist and co-founder of the Theory of Evolution.
