Ernest Sydney Voice served during the Great War as a Gunner later Sergeant (No.8492) with the Royal Field Artillery, and was present out on the Western Front from 30th May 1915 with ‘D’ Battery of the 64th Artillery Brigade.
Voice was present during the Third Battle of Ypres, and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field in the London Gazette for 19th November 1917, being then awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal in the London Gazette of 17th June 1918. The citation therefore concerning his Army Meritorious Service Medal as written on the 64th Army Brigade Royal Field Artillery Gallant Award Certificate reads: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty and consistently setting a fine example to his comrades, under the most dangerous and adverse circumstances.
