The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Commander, C.B.E., 2nd type, Civil Division, silver-gilt and enamels, with full length of issued neck ribbon, and housed in its Garrard and Co ‘By Special Appointment to The King fitted presentation case. Of circa 1940’s / Second World War issue. A very good example of type.
Condition: enamel work very good, lightly tarnished on reverse, Nearly Extremely Fine, the case now showing signs of age but generally good.
Founded by King George V during the First World War for services to the Empire at home, in India and in the overseas dominions and colonies, other than those rendered by the Navy and Army, although it could be conferred upon officers of the armed forces for services of a non-combatant character. A Military Division was created in 1918 and awards made to commissioned officers and warrant officers in respect of distinguished service in action.
