The interesting Great War Western Front and Italy operations group awarded to Private later Lieutenant J.N. Hart, Honourable Artillery Company - Infantry, Territorial Force, later a Deputy Sub Inspector in the Police Special Constabulary, and ultimately appointed a Commander of the Civil Division of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in June 1955 for political and public services in Enfield, Essex. Hart joined the H.A.C Infantry in August 1914, and was present out on the Western Front from 29th December 1914 as a member of No.1 Company in the 1st/1st Battalion. Having gone on to take part in the Battle of the Somme during 1916 when his battalion was with the 190th Brigade in the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division, he was then commissioned into his battalion in January 1917, only to go on to see service with the 2nd/1st Battalion in Italy from November 1917. Post war he was living at Little Heath near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, and may well have seen service with the Honourable Artillery Company Special Constables in the Police Special Constabulary, as he was awarded the Police Special Constabulary Long Service Medal when a Deputy Sub Inspector.

John Napthali Hart, known as Jack, and of the Jewish faith, joined the Territorial Force as a Private (No.1563) the Honourable Artillery Company - Infantry on 25th August 1914, joining as a result of the Great War breaking out. Posted out to the Western Front from 29th December 1914, there he joined the 1st/1st Battalion as a member of No.1 Company, and fought during the First Battle of Ypres and then on further operations in the Ypres Salient as part of the 7th Brigade in the 3rd Division. On 14th October 1915 his Battalion transferred to become GHQ Troops, but owing to the Battle of the Somme, then transferred to the 190th Brigade in the 63rd (Royal Naval) Division, and fought in the Battle of the Ancre.
Hart was then commissioned on 25th January 1917 as a 2nd Lieutenant into the Honourable Artillery Company - Infantry, and continued to see service with the 1st/1st Battalion, before transferring as a Lieutenant to the 2nd/1st Battalion, and seeing service in Italy from November 1917 as part of the 22nd Brigade in the 7th Division. By October 1924 when he claimed his medals, he was living at Little Heath near Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, and may well have seen service with the Honourable Artillery Company Special Constables in the Police Special Constabulary, as he was awarded the Police Special Constabulary Long Service Medal when a Deputy Sub Inspector. He then got into politics, and was appointed a Commander of the Civil Division of The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List as published in the London Gazette for 9th June 1955, this being ‘for political and public services in Enfield’, namely Enfield in Essex.
