Edward Frederick Bines was born in High Laver, Essex and resident of Harlow, enlisted at Harlow and subsequently saw service as a Private (No. 26761) with the Essex Regiment and saw service on the Western Front before he died of wounds on 30th July 1916. He is now buried in Etaples Military Cemetery and is noted as the son of Maurice and Sarah Bines of Malting Farm, Harlow, Essex.

Arthur William Bines the brother of Edward Frederick Bines was similarly born at High Lavor, Essex and enlisted in Harlow before seeing service on the Western Front as a Private (No. T/5396) with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment before he later served as a Private (No. 32583) with ‘A’ Company, 5th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He died of wounds on 17th April 1917 and is now buried in Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, similarly being noted as the son of Maurice and Sarah Bines of Malting Farm, Harlow, Essex.
