Desmond Patterson was born on 6th September 1923 and was posted to the South African Air Force on 10th March 1942 having given his previous occupation as Clerk., he would then be posted to the No.45 Air School as an Observer on 25th December 1943, he would be killed in action on 31st August 1944 on an operational flight with 12 Squadron, South African Air Force and would be buried in Montecchio War Cemetery, Italy. He was noted as the son of Frederick and Ethel M. Patterson of Fish Hoek, Cape Province, South Africa.
At the time of Patterson’s death 12 Squadron was flying B-26F Martin Marauders out of Pescara.
