Thomas Dobal was born in Chard, Somerset around 1826, and would join the Grenadier Guards on 25th November 1846 as a Private. He would be promoted to Corporal on 16th July 1852 and then to Serjeant on 14th December 1853, he would go on to serve as a Serjeant until his discharge on 3rd November 1868, having spent the entirety of his 21 years service at home.
