Charles Bond Ames was born in North Petherton, Somerset in 1862 and attested at Warwick on 1st December 1877 initially serving at home until he travelled to India on 25th September 1878, he would remain there for over 13 years until on 28th December 1891 he travelled to Ceylon. Departing Ceylon on 4th April 1894 he returned home to the UK and was discharged after 21 years service on 28th November 1898, receiving his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 1st April 1896.
