Silver War Badge, reverse numbered: ’385562’ and accompanying Second World War Home Guard Certificate, as awarded to Private G.F.J. Atwell, 6th Service Battalion, East Kent Regiment - the Buffs, later Home Guard. During the Great War he saw service out on the Western Front and was discharged due to wounds on 8th June 1918. During the Second World War he volunteered for service with the Home Guard, and saw service between 29th April 1942 and 31st December 1944 when the Home Guard was stood down.

Together with the recipient’s Home Guard Certificate of Service, issued in the name of: ‘George Frederick James Atwell’, for service between 29th April 1942 and 31st December 1944 when the Home Guard was stood down.

George Frederick James Atwell originally enlisted into the British Army on 4th January 1915 as a Private (No.G-6598) with the East Kent Regiment - the Buffs, and having seen service with the 6th Service Battalion out on the Western Front, was discharged due to wounds on 8th June 1918, being awarded the Silver War Badge numbered: ’385562’. During the Second World War he volunteered for service with the Home Guard, and saw service between 29th April 1942 and 31st December 1944 when the Home Guard was stood down.
