Second World War North Africa and Italy theatres group awarded to Corporal C. Jurgens, 5th Armoured Car Regiment, later 1st Royal Natal Carbineers who having seen service in North Africa with the 8th Army would go on to serve in Italy where he would be wounded at Paliano on 4th June 1944 and subsequently evacuated back to South Africa.

Corporal (No. 178503) Charles Jurgens was born on at Magesfontain on 3rd September 1921, and would join the Union Defence Force on 17th December 1940 initially serving with the 5th Armoured Car Regiment and later the 1st Royal Natal Carbineers. He would serve in North Africa with the 8th Army and later in Italy where he would be wounded at Paliano on 4th June 1944 before being evacuated back to South Africa.
