Second World War North Africa 8th Army and Territorial long service group awarded to Private D. McLachlan, Royal Military Police, formerly Lanarkshire Yeomanry, Territorial Army, who originally enlisted into the Lanarkshire Yeomanry back in February 1928. He transferred to the Corps of Military Police in October 1942, having seen service with the 8th Army in North Africa.

David McLachlan was born on 20th March 1912 and came from Lancaster, Lancashire, and having worked as a labourer, then enlisted into the Territorial Army on 9th February 1928 at Carluke in Lanarkshire, Scotland, joining as a Trooper (No.309759) the Lanarkshire Yeomanry. McLachlan transferred to the Territorial Army Reserve on 8th February 1933, but then re-enlisted into the Territorial Army on 1st February 1934, and would do so again on 15th February 1940, by which time the Second World War was ongoing. McLachlan who was present on operations in North Africa with the 8th Army, then transferred to the Corps of Military Police on 9th October 1942, and was awarded the Efficiency Medal whilst a Private with the Royal Military Police.
