Second World War North Africa 1st Army and Italy campaign Territorial long service group awarded to Major H.A.C. Macdonald, Royal Army Ordnance Corps, formerly Reconnaissance Corps and Territorial Army, who was commissioned into the Recce Corps in September 1942, and saw service in North Africa with the 1st Army during the Tunisian campaign followed by Italy. Subsequently he transferred into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in January 1946, and was awarded the Efficiency Medal in the London Gazette for 28th November 1947.

Hector Alexander Charles Macdonald was born on 4th July 1918, and having enlisted into the Territorial Army, then saw service in the other ranks on the outbreak of the Second World War before being commissioned from Cadet to 2nd Lieutenant (No.245253) into the Reconnaissance Corps on 19th September 1942. Seeing service in North Africa with the 1st Army during the campaign in Tunisia, he went on to be promoted to Lieutenant on 19th March 1943, and then saw service in Italy.
Having then transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps as a War Substantive Captain on 10th January 1946, and having been awarded the Efficiency Medal in the London Gazette for 28th November 1947, was confirmed in that rank on 19th September 1948, being being promoted to Temporary Major on 1st July 1949. Macdonald retired with the rank of Honorary Major on 1st September 1953, and transferred to the Regular Army Reserve of Officers on 1st September 1954, before relinquishing his commission on 1st July 1959. Macdonald died in Plymouth, Devon, in December 1984.
