Richard Holdsworth came from Slough in Buckinghamshire, and originally enlisted into the Territorial Army as a Gunner (No.7435691) with the Royal Artillery, and having seen service during the Second World War with the Heavy Anti-Aircraft / Searchlight Branch, and been present in North Africa with the 1st Army and then in Italy, then transferred as a Trooper to the Royal Armoured Corps on 29th June 1944.
