Walter Theodore Notman was a pre-war member of the Territorial Army who was then posted as a Cadet to an Officer Cadet Training Unit before being commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant (No.194037) into the Royal Army Service Corps on 21st June 1941. Having seen service during the Second World War in the Middle East, Notman was awarded the Efficiency Medal with Territorial suspension in the London Gazette for 6th March 1947 when a Captain.
Having transferred to a Regular Army Short Service Commission post-war, and remaining with the Royal Army Service Corps, he was promoted to Major on 25th March 1955, and then relinquished his commission on 21st September 1955.
