Albert J. Matthews was born in 1914 and saw service as a Private (No. 4396258) with the Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales’ Own Yorkshire Regiment.) and would see service in Italy during the Second World War being killed in action on 18th January 1944 and being buried in the Minturno War Cemetery. He is noted as the son of Henry John and Lucy Elizabeth Matthews of Clerkenwel, London and was the nephew of Mrs M. Drewett of Clerkenwell.
