John Richard Williams saw service with the Royal Navy during the Second World War taking part in the operations in the Atlantic, off the coast of Burma, in the Mediterranean and off the coast of North West Europe He would be Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette of 1st January 1942, before being awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 2nd July 1943 whilst serving as Acting Chief Ordnance Artificer aboard H.M.S. Erebus.
Williams would be mentioned in despatches for a second time in the London Gazette of 26th December 1944, and would receive a bar to his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 9th February 1959.
His records indicate he was awarded a Croix-De-Guerre but we have been unable to find a gazette date for this award.
