Allen William Ryan began his training on 26th August 1940 on DH82 aircraft, and would become proficient on 27th September 1940 after just 34 hours. However he clearly was not quite ready as a note in his log book just days later states ‘An aircraft crashed through your carelessness. This disobedience will divert workers from building fighters and bombers to repairing training aircraft.’ He would train on Oxford’s from late September 1940 until early February 1941 when he would transfer to Blenheim. An aircraft he would remain on until his death.
He would be sent to the Middle East in June 1941 and would go missing on 10th July 1941 later being confirmed as killed whilst serving with 84 Squadron, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Now buried in Aleppo War Cemetery he is noted as the son of Arthur Allen Ryan and Gladys Eleanor Seaton Ryan of Hampstead, London.
