Walter Wood saw service as a Private (No.5379368) with the 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and was present on operations in Burma during the period from 22nd December 1930 to 25th March 1932. He appears to have been incorrectly issued the India General Service Medal 1908-1935, with the wrong clasp, namely the clasp for North West Frontier 1935, to which he is not entitled.
Wood however went on to see service in the Second World War, and fought out in Burma when with the 1st Ox and Bucks but attached as an Acting Sergeant to the 1st Battalion, Nigeria Regiment, with whom he was serving when he was killed in action on 20th December 1944 during the operations in the Arakan. Wood is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery.
