Russia – Soviet: Order of the Red Star awarded to Senior Technical Lieutenant Nikolai Ivanovich Suslin, 9th Guards Mechanised Brigade for his role in preparing troops for enemy gas attacks and for procuring supplies during the winter months, seeing service in the Ukraine and in the Baltic States.

Nikolai Ivanovich Suslin was born in the village of Krasavka, Krasavka Raion, Saratov Oblast in 1904. Having attained a higher education, he went on to serve in the Red Army between June 1942 and May 1946, as part of the 3rd Ukrainian Front between 1942-1943, 1st Baltic and 2nd Baltic Fronts during 1944, and the Leningrad Front during 1945.
This Order of the Red Star was issued by Order of the 9th Guards Mechanised Brigade on 22nd June 1945, and was his only combat award of the war, being issued on the back of the following citation:
‘During his time at the front Senior Technical Lieutenant N.I. Suslin showed himself an audacious, determined, and resourceful officer. The men of the battalion were always ready to defend themselves in the event of an enemy gas attack. Additionally, he carried out the separate task of procuring vegetables during the winter months. He handled his assignments well, thus helping ensure the operations were supported as required.
He deserves the Order of the Red Star.’

He would go on to receive a Medal for the Victory over Germany after the war, and was later to be found working as a Shift Engineer at the Chloride Factory in the City of Enso, Leningrad Oblast, whilst living at 51 Krasniye Komandiry (Red Commanders) Street, Apartment 1, city of Enso, Leningrad Oblast.
