Veniamin Grigorevich Gorshkov was born in the village of Makarovo, Kaisky District, Kirov Blast in 1927. A Russian national, he attained a higher education and joined the Red Army on 4th August 1945.
He would receive a Medal for the 30th Anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy on 22nd February 1948, an unnumbered Medal for Combat Merits received on 30th December 1956, a Medal for the 40th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR on 5th January 1958, a Medal for Irreproachable Service 2nd Class on 11th January 1961, a Medal for the 20th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on 7th May 1965, a Medal for Irreproachable Service 1st Class on 24th January 1966, a Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR on 26th October 1957.
This Order of the Red Star by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 22nd February 1968 was awarded to him whilst serving as a Commander of the 319th Independent Missile Battalion, 38th Missile Brigade whilst living at Military Unit 93260, city of Kremenets, Ternopol Oblast.
This unit would have been a strategic missile unit that would have been equipped with nuclear weapons and long range surface to surface missiles.
