Russia – Soviet: Medal for Valiant Labour, 1st Type, 1st Variation (1938-1943), with serial number hand engraved: ’No 2047’, the first type early suspension has been replaced, it having been reconverted for display purposes from a five sided suspension, and has an incorrect screw-plate. The disc itself is original and is a good example of type and very rare. An award number in this range indicates and award prior to the Great Patriotic War, it being awarded prior to 1941.

The Medal for Valiant Labour was established on 27th September 1938, the medal was given as an award for self-sacrificial labour activity whilst displaying valour. It could be awarded to workers, kolkhozniks, specialists of the national economy, scientific workers, cultural workers, educators, health care workers and other citizens of the USSR and also to foreigners for: 1) Self-sacrificing, creative labour, overfulfillment of quotas, planned assignments and socialist obligations, increasing productivity and improving the quality of production 2) Effective use of new technology and originating progressive technology, important inventions and streamlining proposals. 3) Accomplishments in the fields of science, culture, literature, art, national education, health care, trade, food production, housing, merchandise supply and other areas of labour activity 4) Productive labour in communist development and professional training of the young, for successful governmental and social activity. 5) Accomplishments in the area of physical culture and sport.
