The Medal for Distinction on Guarding the State Border of the USSR was established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 13th July 1950. The medal is awarded for achievements in guarding the state border of the USSR. The first people awarded the medal were Senior Lieutenant D. Ignatyev, Sergeant-Major G. Gordeyev and the famer V. Ageichenko on 22nd August 1950. Over 56,000 were awarded.
