Viktor Ivanovich Ushanov was born in 1925 in the city of Leningrad, and was a member of the Communist Youth Organisation known as the Komsomol since 1944. During the Great Patriotic War he saw service in the Red Army and was serving as a Private in the 160th Artillery Regiment and employed as a Scout-observer, when he was awarded the Medal for Bravery (No.1169559) in the Decree of the 160th Artillery Regiment No.013 of 3rd May 1944. His unit was serving within the 24th Rifle Division when he was further awarded the Order of Glory 3rd Class (No.414821) on 21st May 1945. He is also entitled to the Medal for the Victory Over Germany, and as of June 1947 was serving as an Electromechanical technician-driver in the 187th Independent Scout-Spotter Aviation Regiment. He home address was still shown as Leningrad.
