Russia - Soviet: Medal for Bravery, 1st Type, 3rd Variation with award serial number stamped: ‘62043’, with first type early suspension having been replaced, it having been reconverted for display purposes from a five sided suspension, and has an incorrect large format screw-plate. This serial number is indicative of an award made mid-1942.

Established on 17th October 1938. Also known as the Medal for Courage , Medal for Valour and Medal for Gallantry . Considered the most highly respected Soviet military medal, it was awarded to personnel of all ranks in the Army, Navy, Border Troops and Ministry of Internal Affairs troops for personal bravery in a theatre of operations; in defence of USSR borders; for performance of a soldier's duty in life-risking situations; and for activities against spies and subversive elements.
