The Medal for the Defence of Moscow was awarded to all participants in the Defence of Moscow – soldiers of the Red Army, troops of the NKVD, as well as all persons from the civilian population who took part in the Defence of Moscow during the Battle of Moscow.
The Medal for the Defence of the Caucasus was awarded to all participants in the Defence of the Caucasus, soldiers of the Red Army, sailors of the Navy, troops of the NKVD, as well as persons of the civilian population who took part in the Defence of the Caucasus during the Battle of the Caucasus.
The Medal for the Defence of the Soviet Polar Regions was awarded to all participants of the Defence of the Polar Regions – to servicemen of the Red Army, Navy, NKVD and civilians directly participating in the defence of the northern areas of the Soviet Union, particularly in the area around the Kola Peninsula which includes the area around Murmansk.
The Medal for the Defence of Kiev was established on 21st June 1961, and was awarded to all participants in the Defence of Kiev – Soviet Army soldiers and troops of the former NKVD, as well as all the workers who participated in the Defence of Kiev, in the ranks of the Militia, in the construction of fortifications, who worked in factories serving the needs of the front, members of the Kiev underground and partisans who fought against the enemy near Kiev.
