Russia – Soviet: Baltic Offensive Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class awarded to Guards Junior Lieutenant Sergei Nikolaevich Belozerov, a Rifle Platoon Commander, 94th Guards Rifle Regiment, 30th Guards Red Banner Rifle Division awarded for his gallantry on 6th October 1944 when with his platoon he attacked a superior enemy force headlong and along with other advancing units overran the enemy and occupied the village with minor losses for his own forces, whilst inflicting great losses of men and equipment on the enemy.

Sergei Nikolaevich Belozerov was born in 1924. A Russian national he joined the Komsomol in 1942 and fought with the Red Army from 22nd August 1942 onwards. He would be awarded a Medal for Bravery by decree of the 254th Guards Rifle Regiment on 29th August 1943 and would later be awarded this Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class on 22nd October 1944.
Awarded to him whilst serving as a Guards Junior Lieutenant, Rifle Platoon Commander, 94th Guards Rifle Regiment, 30th Guards Red Banner Rifle Division the recommendation reads:
‘In an offensive battle on 6th October 1944 for the village of Lubkalni, Guards Junior Lieutenant Belozerov, acting skilfully and decisively, with his platoon attacked a superior enemy force headlong and, with the assistance of other advancing units, overran the enemy and occupied the village with minor losses for our own forces. Meanwhile, great losses in men and equipment were inflicted upon the enemy.
He deserves the government award the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class.’
With this award having been made in the field, a temporary certificate being issued for it, little else is known of the recipients further service.
Lubkalni is a town in eastern Latvia and was fought over in early October 1944 during the Red Army’s Baltic Offensive, which led to the capture of Riga and the encirclement of a large German force in the Kurland pocket.
