Russia – Soviet: An Reconnaissance Squad Commander’s Order of the Red Star awarded to Senior Sergeant Aleksandr Antonovich Shaburov, 2nd Battalion, 147th ‘Rechysta-Rogachev’ Red Banner Artillery Brigade for pinpointing front line observation posts , enemy artillery batteries and other firing positions. In the fighting to the west of Nikolaevka on 24th June 1944 he uncovered a concentration of enemy infantry which was suppressed by fire from his battalion.

Aleksandr Antonovich Shaburov was born in the village of Romantsevo, Ovinishchensky District, Kalinin Oblast in 1912. A Russian national he attained an elementary education before serving in the Red Army from November 1934 until October 1936. He would be recalled at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
He would be decorated with a Medal for Bravery by decree of the 5th Army on 25th August 1942, and later an Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class by decree of 61st Army on 26th August 1943. He would go on to receive this Order of the Red Star by decree of the 147th Artillery Brigade.
Awarded whilst serving as a Senior Sergeant and a Reconnaissance Squad Commander, 2nd Battalion, 147th ‘Rechysta-Rogachev’ Red Banner Artillery Brigade, the citation reads:
‘Recommended for the Order of the Red Star for the following: during the period of preparation for the operation, he pinpointed on the front line 6 observation posts, 3 enemy artillery batteries and 19 other firing positions on the forward line and in near depth.
During the artillery offensive, Comrade Shaburov went with the ranks of the infantry. He uncovered a concentration of enemy infantry in the area of west of Nikolaevka, which was suppressed by fire from our battalion. Additionally on 24th June 1944, in the area of Chernin, two artillery batteries were spotted, which were immediately suppressed.’
He would survive the war and by June 1946 would be working as a Director of the Commercial Dairy Farm, ‘Voroshilov’ Kolkhoz, Chernetsky selsovet, Ovinishchensky District.
