Russia – Soviet: An interesting Medic’s, treating the wounded under fire Medal for Bravery awarded to Junior Lieutenant of the Medical Service Fyodor Vladimirovich Gerasimov, 2nd Battalion, 919th Artillery Regiment, 358th Rifle Division for risking his life to evacuate 8 soldiers under artillery fire.

Junior Lieutenant Fyodor Vladimirovich Gerasimov was born in Pokhvistnevo Raion, Kuibyshev Oblast in 1923, and having attained a secondary education served in the Red Army from September 1941 onwards.
This award of the Medal for Bravery made whilst serving as a Junior Lieutenant of the Medical Service as part of the 2nd Battalion of the 919th Artillery Regiment, 358th Rifle Division was issued by Order of the 358th Rifle Division 12th February 1944 on the back of the following citation:
‘During the fighting for the village of Shevury on December 12, 1943, while with the front ranks of our advancing infantry, he rendered medical assistance to wounded soldiers, risking his life under artillery fire. He personally evacuated 8 soldiers from under the bombardment and dressed the wounds of 7 soldiers.’

Gerasimov would go on to be awarded an Order of the Red Star on 19th July 1944 by Order of the 358th Rifle Division, a second Order of the Red Star on 29th January 1945 also by Order of the 358th Rifle Division, as well as the Medals for the Defence of Moscow, the Capture of Konigsberg and the Medal for the Victory over Japan.
After the war he worked as a senior section nurse at the 1119th Mobile Field Hospital whilst living in the village of Stary Amanak in Pokhvistnevo Raion.
