Russia – Soviet: An interesting Konigsberg Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class awarded to Major Gennady Fyodorovich Romanov, Assistant Chief of the Department of the Military Transport Department of the 50th Army for dismantling of the Belau-Friedlen track for the redeployment of the rails and fastenings to Konigsberg for the laying of refuge sidings for armoured trains. He would direct the traffic of trains headed from the rear to the front, and there were no delays in their movements. Cargoes running outside of Konigsberg delivered without delays.

Gennady Fyodorovich Romanov was burn in the village of Ryndgen, Tsilivsky District, Chuvash ASSR. A Russian national, he attained a Higher Education and joined the Red Army on 2nd January 1934.
Romanov would serve with the 50th Army during the Great Patriotic War and would be decorated for the first time when he would receive an Order of the Red Star by decree of the 50th Army on 2nd November 1944. He would next be awarded this Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class by decree of the 50th Army on 3rd July 1945.
Issued to him whilst serving as a Major and Assistant Chief of the Department of the Military Transport Department 50th Army the recommendation reads:
‘On a mission from the Front (Command), Comrade Romanov directed the dismantling of the Belau-Friedlen track for redeployment of the rails and fastenings to Konigbserg for the laying of refuge sidings for armoured trains. From the 20th to the 30th of March, 50km of track were removed and redeployed outside Konigsberg. From the 1st to the 7th of March 1945, Comrade Romanov directed the traffic of the trains headed from the rear to the front. There were no delays in the movement of trains. Cargoes running outside of Konigsberg were delivered without delays.’
After the Patriotic War he would work as an instructor at the L.M. Kaganovich Military Transport Academy and would live in the city of Leningrad.
He would go on to receive a Medal for Combat Merits for 10 years long service on 3rd November 1944, an Order of the Red Star on 20th June 1949 for 15 years long service and an Order of the Red Banner for 20 years long service on 30th April 1954. He would also be in receipt of a Medal for the Capture of Konigsberg, a Medal for the Victory over Germany and a Jubilee Medal for the 30th Anniversary of the Soviet Army and Navy.
