Russia – Soviet: An interesting forcing of the Oder Order Glory 3rd Class awarded to Junior Sergeant Mikhail Pavlovich Dubov, Machine Gun Company, 149th Army Reserve Rifle Regiment, 8th Guards Army who had served from early July 1941 and was wounded three times during the course of a career that saw him fight on the Volkhov Front, Kalinin Front and 1st Belarussian Front. He would be amongst the first to cross the Oder river, throwing grenades into two enemy trenches which either destroyed or wounded 10 Hitlerites, thus securing the crossing for approaching reinforcements.

Mikhail Pavlovich Dubov was born in Kostroma Oblast, Galichsky District, village of Krepovo in 1913. He attained an Elementary Education and joined the Red Army on 9th July 1941, subsequently becoming a member of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks in 1942, he would see service on the Volkhov Front in 1941-1942, Kalinin Front in 1943 and finally the 1st Belarussian Front during 1944-1945. He would receive a Medal for Bravery by decree of the 49th Rifle Division on 11th June 1944 and Order of the Red Star by decree of the 49th Rifle Division on 6th March 1945, and finally this Order of Glory 3rd Class by Decree of the 8th Guards Army on 8th October 1945.
At the time of the award of this Order of Glory he was serving as a Junior Sergeant and Starshina, Machine Gun Company, 149th Army Reserve Rifle Regiment, 8th Guards Army, the citation reads:
‘Basis: wound certificates 1) Evacuation Hospital 1891 of 02.04.1942, 2) Evacuation Hospital 1913 of 02.09.1944, 3) No.0-3 of 03.02.1942.
Junior Sergeant Dubov, M.P. has been on the front of the Great Patriotic War since 1941. In battles for the Soviet Motherland, he has been wounded three times. While forcing the Oder, he was among the first to cross to the left bank and threw grenades into two enemy trenches, which destroyed and wounded 10 Hitlerites. Through his example, he inspired all the troops to heroic deeds. The enemy was thrown back. The crossing was secured for approaching reinforcements.
He is a decisive and bold soldier, disciplined and demanding of himself and his subordinates. He is faithful to his military oath. Deserves the government award the Order of Glory 3rd Class.’
By 3rd August 1946, he was employed as a District Officer at the Galich District Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and would be living in the village of Stepanovo, Stepanovsky Selsovet, Galichsky District Kostroma Oblast.
