Russia – Soviet: An interesting backdated Voronezh fighting Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class for wounds to Nikolai Yakovlevich Makarov, 6th Company, 15th Rifle Division, who was wounded whilst carrying out a supply mission on 1st October 1942.

Nikolai Yakovlevich Makarov was born in the village of Gridino, Perevoz Raion, Gorky Oblast in 1914. Serving in the Red Army from May 1942 with the 15th Rifle Division, Makarov was to receive only one award, this Order of the Patriotic 2nd Class, awarded to him belatedly on 20th April 1948, the citation for the award was as follows:
‘Makarov’s unit, the 6th Company, of the 15th Rifle Division, was on the defensive. While carrying out an assignment relating to supplies he was wounded in his leg. The lower part of his leg was subsequently amputated. He had been on the front line for 15 days. At the present time he works at a Kolkhoz. He is a disabled Patriotic War veteran of the 3rd category.’
He deserves to be awarded the Order of Glory 3rd Class. Signed by the Military Commissar of the Military Commissariat of the Semyonov Raion, Lieutenant Colonel Novosyolov.
Makarov was wounded on 1st October 1942, leading to him becoming a disabled version of the 3rd Category.
15th Rifle Division was involved in the fighting in and around the key city of Voronezh on the Don river during the summer and autumn of 1942.
After the war, and at the time of his award, Makarov was working as a Stable hand at the ‘Vtoraya Pyatiletka’ (Second five year plan) Workers’ Co-operative, Semyonov Raion, Gorky Oblast, and was living at ‘Vtoraya Pyatiletka’, Oktyabrskaya (October) Street, city of Semyonov, Gorky Oblast.
