Yury Efimovich Duda was born in 1896, he would be conscripted by the Nezhinsky District Military Commissariat in September 1943 and would be wounded twice, suffering a severe wound on 15th October 1943, and a light wound on 12th March 1944 whilst serving with the 1st Ukrainian Front. He would be awarded this Medal for Bravery whilst serving as a sub-machine gunner, 343rd Guards Heavy Artillery Regiment by decree of the 343rd Guards Heavy Artillery Regiment on 8th June 1945 for:
‘Courage and bravery displayed in battles on the territory of East Prussia from 13th April until 16th April 1945. During this period, Comrade Duda under enemy fire, each day, twice daily, delivered hot food to the combat crews directly on the battlefield, thus facilitating the fulfilment of combat missions.’
No more is known of Duda’s military career after this date.
