Russia – Soviet: An Aviation Mechanic’s Order of the Red Star awarded to Military Technician Aleksandr Andreevich Barashev, 66th Assault Aviation Regiment, 15th Composite Aviation Division, South Western Front for his courage and bravery while saving equipment and material under an attack by enemy aviation, he personally prepared 3 planes for takeoff during the bombing and prevented the detonation of a munitions depot. He would later suffer a severe fragmentation wound.

Aleksandr Andreevich Barashev was born in the village of Borovoe, Kostanay Oblast in 1920. A Russian national he attained an elementary education before joining the Red Army in November 1938. He would serve on the front line from 26th June 1941 until 3rd September 1941 when he was wounded.
This Order of the Red Star issued by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 12th June 1968 relates to the wound he suffered on 3rd September 1941 whilst he was serving as an Aviation Mechanic, 66th Assault Aviation Regiment, 15th Composite Aviation Division, Southwestern Front. The citation reads:
‘On 3.9.1941, the regiment, carrying out a mission from command, rebased to a different airfield in the area of the city of Voronezh. During an attack by enemy aviation, Comrade Barashev A.A. displayed courage and bravery while saving equipment and material. 3 planes were personally prepared for takeoff by him during the period of the bombing, and the detonation of a munitions depot was prevented.
In the subsequent battle Comrade Barashev A.A. suffered a severe fragmentation wound to the left groin area and the area of the anus.
At present, Barashev A.A. is working at military unit 86613 in the position of manager of barracks services. Local Party and Soviet organs are agreed on recommendation of Comrade Barashev A.A. for awarding.
He would also receive a Medal for Victory over Germany and Medal for Victory over Japan.
On 30th July 1968 he would be the Manager of Barracks services at Military Unit 86613, whilst living in building 11/23, Sportivnaya Street, city of Klin, Moscow Oblast.
