Russia – Soviet: A summer of 1944 Order of Glory 3rd Class awarded to Private A.L. Koshevarov, a Scout in the 41st Guards Rifle Division, 7th Guards Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front for his part in destroying a German grouping breaking through to the sugar factory in the village of Pochnitsy in Western Ukraine, most likely during the attempt by the German forces in the Kamanets-Podolsky pocket to break out and regain their lines. He would kill 8 German soldiers and take 3 prisoner during the action.

Afanasy Leontevich Koshevarov was born in the village of Balashevka, Komosomlsky Selsovet, Rechitsky District, Gomel Oblast was born in 1915. A Belarussian national he completed 4 grades of elementary school. Having initially served in the Red Army from September 1936 to October 1938 and then later from July 1943 to October 1945.
His first decoration would be an Order of Combat Merits would be issued to him by decree of the 41st Guards Rifle Division, 7th Guards Army on 3rd November 1943, this Order of Glory 3rd Class would be issued to him decree of the 41st Guards Rifle Division on 14th June 1944 whilst serving as a Guards Private and Rifleman, Headquarters Platoon, Headquarters of the 41st Guards ‘Korsun’ Rifle Division as a result of the following recommendation:
‘In battles to destroy the German grouping breaking through to the sugar factory (village of Pochnitsy), Comrade Koshevarov acted as part of a group of soldiers from the headquarters platoon to defend the division command post, which was threatened.
In the battle, Comrade Koshevarov destroyed 8 German soldiers with his sub-machine gun and took 3 prisoner. For courage and valour displayed, Comrade Koshevarov deserves government award the Order of Glory 3rd Class.’
Surviving the war, in 1946 he was working as a collective farmer at the Shlyakh Lenina Kolkhoz, Molchany village, Kamorovsky selsovet, whilst living in the village that was located in Rechitsky District.
