Russia – Soviet: A Strypa River breakthrough Order of Glory 3rd Class to Sergeant N.V. Izyumov, 640th Rifle Regiment, 147th Rifle Division for running a telephone line to the battalion headquarters and repairing 11 wire breaks during the fighting for the village of Dubovtsy in the summer of 1943.

Nikolai Vasilevich Izyumov was born in the village of Svyatoe, Ostashkovsky District, Kalinin Oblast in 1921, and served in the Red Army from May 1942 until January 1945, he became a member of the Komsomol in 1942.
Izyumov was first to be awarded the Medal for Combat Merits by Order of the 147th Rifle Division on 23rd August 1943, and subsequently an order of the Red Star by Order of the 147th Rifle Division on 31st December 1943.
This Order of Glory 3rd Class was awarded to him by Order of the 147th Rifle Division on 13th August 1944 whilst serving as a Sergeant, Squad Commander, Signals Company, 640th Rifle Regiment, 147th Rifle Division as a result of the following recommendation:
‘During the regiments offensive battles after breaching the enemy’s defense on the river Strypa, Comrade Izyumov proved himself a bold, fearless soldier.
Serving in the 1st Rifle Battalion, despite heavy enemy fire, he always ensured communications between sub-units and the regimental command post. In battles for the village of Dubovtsy, under a whirlwind of enemy fire, he ran a telephone line to the battalion. In this battle, under ceaseless enemy fire, he personally repaired 11 breaks in the telephone line, thereby ensuring uninterrupted communications with regiment for the battalion.’
Izymov was also to receive a Medal for the Victory over Germany.
After the war, he worked as a Machinist, Mechanised Main Bread Factory, city of Leningrad, whilst living at Apartment 29, 18 Rozenshtein Street, city of Leningrad.
