Russia – Soviet: A Stalingrad veterans Medal for Combat Merits group awarded to Guards Captain Philip Eremeevich Tsabik, 5th Tank Training Regiment, 2nd Tank Training Brigade, 17th Separate Tank Company who would be twice wounded during the war, the first time at Voronezh on 30th July 1942 and the second time in Stalingrad on 25th September 1942. He would be awarded a Medal for Combat Merits for 10 years long service.
Group of 4: Medal for Combat Merits, type 2, reverse numbered 3078609; Medal for the Defence of Stalingrad, type 1; Medal for the Victory over Germany; Jubilee Medal for 30 years of the Soviet Army and Navy.
Condition: Mounted soviet style on old backplate with plastic ‘ribbons’. Good Very Fine
Together with original certificate for the Medal for the Defence of Stalingrad, this torn along the vertical and horizontal folds as often seen, issued to Tsabik on 30th January 1944 by the Chelyabinsk Military Commissariat. Also with Medal for the Victory over Germany and Medal for 30 Years of the Army and Navy.
Philip Eremeevich Tsabik was born in Chudnovsky District, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine SSR on 3rd March 1910 and joined the Red Army on 10th December 1932 and would serve as a Guards Captain, as part of the 5th Tank Training Regiment, 2nd Tank Training Brigade, 17th Separate Tank Company.
During the course of the war he would be involved in the fighting for the Defence of Leningrad, and during 1942 would take part in the fighting at Voronezh where he would be wounded on 30th July 1942 and in Stalingrad, where he would be wounded on 25th September 1942 whilst serving as a Junior Lieutenant.
He would be awarded a Medal for Military Merit on 30th April 1945, most likely for 10 years long service and would remain in the regiment until 10th July 1946 and would be discharged on 2nd November 1949
