Russia – Soviet: A Rzhev Salient ‘For Wounds’ Order of Glory 3rd Class awarded to Private V.D. Rosikov, a machine-gunner of 1132nd Rifle Division, 336th Rifle Division who served between 10th May and 15th August 1942 before he received wounds that led to his eventual discharge whilst involved in the fighting in the Rzhev Salient, the scene of much heavy fighting and an area of the front that became known as the Rzhev meat-grinder.

Vladimir Dmitrievich Rosikov was born in the city of Gorlovka, Donestskaya Oblast during 1919. A Ukrainian national he was born in 1919.
Having attained a middle school education he would serve in the Red Army from November 1941 until 10th December 1943 and on the frontlines from 10th May 1942 until 15th August 1942 when he was severely wounded.
This award was made by a decree of the Supreme Soviet on 7th May 1970, the 25th Anniversary of the end of the Great Patriotic War, and was issued to him in regard to his service as a Private and machine gunner -1132nd Rifle Division, 336th Rifle Division as a result of the following recommendation:
‘Comrade Rosikov V.D. served in the Soviet Army from 21st November 1941 until 10th July 1943. He took part in the Great Patriotic War in the position of machine gunners as part of the 1132nd Rifle Regiment, 336th Rifle Division from 10th May 1942 until 15th August 1942.
On 15th August 1942, he suffered a severe penetrating bullet wound to the left elbow. He was in recuperation at Military Hospital No.414, city of Sverdlovsk, from 15th August 1942 until 10th July 1943, as confirmed by medical report No.2865 of 10th July 1943, used by Military Hospital No.414. he was discharged to the reserves due to illness on 10th July 1943. He is considered unfit for military service and registration with exceptions.
After discharge to the reserves, he worked in various positions in the city’s institutions. At the present time, he is working as an inspector for the security department of the Central City District Department of Internal Affairs. He is evaluated positively at his work. He takes active part in the security department’s social life.’
The 336th Rifle Division was involved in heavy fighting in the Rzhev salient during the summer of 1942. An area that became known as the Rzhev meatgrinder to Red Army troops due to the enormous losses suffered by both sides for little or no territorial gain.
He would also be in receipt of the Medal for the Victory over Germany, the Medal for the 20th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Medal for the 50th Anniversary of the Armed Forces of the USSR.
At the time of his award in 1970, Rosikov was working as an Engineer in the Production Technical Department at the Gorlovkazhilstroy Group in the city of Gorlovka, whilst living at 17 Kirov Street in the city of Gorlovka.
