Russia – Soviet: A Long Service Order of the Red Banner, third award to Guards Colonel Vasily Stepanovich Shkurko, who was a Senior Lecturer in tactics at the Advanced Officer Training Course of the Airborne Forces. A much-decorated wartime Officer, he had previously won two Orders of the Red Star, and Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class, two wartime awards of the Order of the Red Banner, an Order of Aleksandr Nevsky, and post war was awarded an Order of Lenin.

Guards Colonel Vasily Stepanovich Shkurko was born in the town of Krasnaya Sloboda, Slutsk District in the USSR in 1904, he joined the Red Army in 1927 and subsequently the Communist Party of 1928. Serving in the Great Patriotic War, he was highly decorated, being awarded:

His first Order of the Red Banner (no.75199) by Order of the 61st Army on 19th October 1943, this most likely was for Operation Kutozov, the Soviet counteroffensive after the Battle of Kursk that the 61st Army took part in.
His Order of the Red Banner, second award (no.3624) by Order of the 70th Army, 1st Belarussian Front on 7th August 1944, this most likely an award for the early part of Operation Bagration.
A second Order of the Red Star (no.1080380) was awarded by Decree of the Supreme Soviet on 3rd November 1944
