Aleksandr Stepanovich Stepanov was born in the Demyansk District of Leningrad Oblast in 1910. A Russian national he attained a Middle School education before joining the Red Army in October 1932.
Serving during the Great Patriotic War he would take part in the Defence of Leningrad, and would later be awarded an Order of the Patriotic War 1st Class by decree of the 4th Tank Army on 15th April 1944 and an Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class by decree of the 4th Tank Army on 12th March 1945.
He would receive a Medal for Combat Merits for 10 years service by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 30th April 1945 as well as medals for the Capture of Berlin, Liberation of Prague and Victory over Germany.
His final award would be this award of the Order of the Red Star issued by decree of the Supreme Soviet for 15 years long service on 30th December 1956 at his time he was serving as the Regimental Chief of Staff of the 29th Independent Tank Regiment, 6th Guards Mechanised Corps, 4th Tank Army.
He is listing as having been a resident of the village of Yamnik, Demyansk District, Leningrad Oblast.
