Mikhail Georgievich Drozdov was born in the village of Pronino, Kaluga Region in 1898. Spending seven years at school, he served in the Red Army from its creation in 1918, and by the time of the award of this Order of the Red Banner for long service in November 1944, he had attained the position as the Head of the Chemical Pharmaceutical Section of the Medical Depot No. 2111, Naval base construction department no.5. of the Navy in the rank of Captain of the Medical Corps.
Drozdov would also receive an Order of Lenin for 25 years long service on 24th June 1948, indicating a break in service at some point between 1918 and 1948. He was also to receive a Medal for the Victory over Germany and a Medal for 20 Years of the Red Army, which indicated he was in service during the Stalinist purges of the late 1930s and survived those events which resulted in the arrest an execution of a large number of the higher ranking officers of the Red Army
