Reserve Senior Sergeant Pavel Vasilyevich Matveyev was born in Leningrad in 1914, and served with Red Army between May 1942- October 1945, joining the Communist Party in 1944. The recipient of two Medals for Courage, the first on 16th February 1944 by Order of the 194th Guards Rifle Regiment, 64th Rifle Division most likely for his role in the Leningrad-Novgorod Offensive which began in January 1944, and the second, this Medal for Courage awarded to him by Order of the 194th Order of Alexander Nevsky Guards Rifle Regiment, 64th Krasnoye Selo Red Banner Guards Rifle Division on March 4th, 1945.

Born in 1914; member of the Communist Party; Russian; inducted into the Red Army in 1942 by the Military Commissariat of the Petrograd Raion, city of Leningrad. Home address redacted. Wounded on July 17, 1944. Awarded the Medal for the Defence of Leningrad on December 22, 1942 and the Medal for Courage on February 16th, 1944.
As with all combatants, he was to receive the Medal for the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War before after the war working as a Lathe Operator at Factory Nr.619 whilst a resident of Apartment 20, 23 M. Gorky Avenue, in the city of Leningrad.
