Russia – Soviet: A Liberation of Kiev Medal for Bravery awarded to Red Army Soldier Fyodor Grigorevich Seleznev, 385th Rifle Regiment, 136th ‘Kiev’ Rifle Division who whilst serving with a Mortar Company attached to the 2nd Rifle Battalion proved himself a daring and courageous mortarman when as part of a mortar crew, he moved forward and with accurate gun laying destroyed an enemy mortar battery.

Fyodor Grigorevich Seleznev was born in the village of Parfentevo, Egorevsky District, Moscow Oblast in 1908. A Russian national he attained an elementary education before joining the Red Army in June 1941.
This Medal for Bravery would be Seleznev’s first award of the war, being issued by decree of the 385th Rifle Regiment, 136th ‘Kiev’ Rifle Division whilst he was serving as a Red Army Soldier, Mortar Company, 2nd Rifle Battalion, the citation reads for the following:
‘in battle with the enemy on 3rd November 1943, he proved himself a daring and courageous mortarman. As part of a mortar crew, he moved forward to the forward positions, and with accurate gun laying, destroyed an enemy mortar battery.’
The fighting around this period would have involved the Liberation of Kiev.
He would later be awarded an Order of Glory 3rd Class by decree of the 318th Rifle Division on 22nd April 1945. Discharged from the Red Army in December 1945, by May 1946 he was employed as a Kolkhoz Chairman of the Parfentovo Kolkhoz, Egorevsky District, Moscow Oblast whilst living in Parfentovo Village
