Russia – Soviet: A Kalinin Front ‘for wounds’ Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class awarded to Red Army Soldier Abutbai Kasymov, 2nd Rifle Regiment of an unknown unit on the Kalinin Front who was severely wounded on 9th February 1944 resulting in the amputation of his right arm.

Abutai Kasymov was born in the city of Namangan, Uzbekistan in 1895. An Uzbek national he attained an elementary education before joining the Red Army in February 1942. He would see front line service from 14th November 1943 until 9th February 1944 as part of the Kalinin Front.
This decoration would be his sole decoration issued to him by decree of the Supreme Soviet of 6th November 1947, at the time of its award he would be noted as a former Private, 2nd Rifle Regiment, Kalinin Front, the recommendation reads:
‘Former Red Army Soldier Kasymov Abutbai took part in the Patriotic War from 14th November 1943 to 9th February 1944 on the Kalinin Front.
On 9th February 1944, as a Private and Rifleman of the 2nd Rifle Regiment (he does not recall the number of his division or army) he was severely wounded in the right arm, requiring amputation. As a result of his wound, he is deemed an invalid of of the 2nd ground. He deserves the government award the Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class.’
By February 1948 he was working as a salesman in the 25th Anniversary of October Artel in the city of Namangan, Uzbekistan whilst living at No.1 Uch-Kurganskaya Street, city of Namangan, Uzbekistan.
