Russia – Soviet: A good Hungarian Offensive Airborne troops Order of Glory 3rd Class awarded to Red Army Soldier Mikhail Pavlovich Bazhan, a Light-Machine Gunner, 17th Guards Airborne Regiment, 6th Guards Airborne Division, 7th Guards Amry, 2nd Ukrainian Front who was decorated for killing 7-8 enemy soldiers during the offensive on the city of Turje, Hungary on 26th September 1944. He would be wounded on 3rd October 1944 and would then be evacuated for recuperation.

Mikhail Pavlovich Bazhan was born in the village of Potichek, Reshetilovsky District, Poltava Oblast in 1908. A Ukrainian national he completed 3 grades of elementary education before joining the Red Army on 7th October 1943 until 6th January 1944 when he was severely wounded, and would serve again from 1st September 1944 until 3rd October 1944 when he was severely wounded for a second time.
This Order of Glory 3rd Class issued by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 6th November 1945 issued to him whilst serving as a Red Army Soldier and Light Machine-Gunner, 17th Guards Airborne Regiment, 6th Guards Airborne Division, 7th Guards Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front, the citation reading:
‘On 26th September 1944 during the offensive on the city of Turde (Turje), Hungary, Red Army Soldier Bazhanov, as a light machine gunner of the 17th Guards Airborne Regiment, 6th Guards Airborne Division, 7th Army, 2nd Ukrainian Front, killed 7-8 enemy soldiers.
On 3rd October 1944, during the further offensive, 15 kilometres from the city of Turde (Turje?), Hungary. Comrade Bazhan was severely wounded and evacuated for recuperation in a rear hospital.
He was never in captivity or encircled. He lived on occupied territory until the arrival of the Red Army. He deserves awarding of a Government award.’
By July 1946, Bazhan had left the army, and was living in the village of Peschanoe in Reshetilovsky District in Poltava Oblast whilst working as a Shoemaker in the Trety Reshayushy Kolkhoz in Reshetilovsky District.
