Russia- Soviet: A ‘for wounds’ Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class awarded to Red Army Soldier Anatoly Danilovich Chesavikov,, 269th Rifle Regiment, 88th Guards Rifle Division, 3rd Ukrainian Front who having killed 27 Germans with fire from his machine gun, would later on 13th January 1944 suffer a severe bullet wound and a mortar fragment wound leading to the amputation of his right leg.

Anatoly Danilovich Chesavikov was born in the village of Varlygno, Nikitinsky Selsovet, Ustyuzhenzsky Vologda Oblast in 1925. A Russian national he attained an elementary education before serving in the Red Army from January 1943 onwards.
This was the recipient sole award, being awarded to him by decree of the Supreme Soviet on 29th June 1945 and whilst he was serving with as a Red Army Soldier and Machine-Gunner with the 269th Rifle Regiment, 88th Guards Rifle Division, 3rd Ukrainian Front, the recommendation reads:
‘Red Army Soldier Chasovikov A.D. taking part in battles on the 3rd Ukrainian Front in the 269th Rifle Regiment, destroyed 27 Fritzes with fire from his machine gun. The company in which Chasovikov served repelled 5 German counterattacks.
At the height of the battle, on 13th January 1944, he suffered a severe bullet wound and a mortar fragment wound. His right leg was amputated. At present, he is an invalid of the 2nd group (Recorded from his own testimony, wound confirmed by certificate by certificate from Evacuation Hospital 1335)
For participation in battles in defence of the Soviet Motherland and for a severe wound received therein, I motion for awarding Red Army Soldier Chasovikov the Order of Glory 3rd Class.’
His wounding would occur near the village of Khrushchevka on 13th January 1944 and would result in no further front line service.
By November 1946 he would be employed as a storeroom clerk at the Varlygno Kolkhoz, Niktinsky Selsovet, Ustyuzhensky District, Vologda Oblast whilst also living in the village of Varlygno
